Zwane’s Story – From Survival to Restoration

1–2 minutes

Zwane’s story is one that has stayed with us.
When we were first introduced to him, he was a young boy living with a stoma in extremely challenging circumstances. Without access to proper supplies, his mum was doing everything she could to care for him, washing and reusing a single stoma bag, securing it with tape just to get through each day. It was a situation no child should have to endure, and one that carried both physical risk and emotional strain for the whole family.

Through the generosity of supporters, Footprints 2 Africa was able to step in and begin providing Zwane with consistent, monthly stoma supplies. That continuity of care brought immediate relief, reducing discomfort, protecting his skin, and allowing him to experience a level of normality that had previously been out of reach.

What began as emergency support became something more stable. With the backing of committed partners on the ground and those who chose to stand with him, Zwane received the supplies he needed with dignity and reliability.

On 10th March, Zwane reached an important milestone in his journey—he underwent a successful stoma reversal.

This moment represents more than a medical procedure. It marks the beginning of a new chapter. A step away from daily uncertainty and towards a future where he can simply be a child—returning to school, rebuilding confidence, and living without the constant burden he once carried.

His journey is a powerful reminder of what access to the right care at the right time can achieve. From a place of survival to a moment of restoration, Zwane’s story reflects the impact of collective action—of people choosing to give, support, and stand alongside those in need.

There are many more children like Zwane still waiting.
