Our Story
Footprints 2 Africa was founded from lived experience and a belief that no one should be left without the supplies they need to live with dignity. Following a diagnosis of colorectal cancer and life changing stoma surgery, founder Sam Yiollaris became aware of the challenges faced by ostomates across Africa. Many were living without access to the supplies needed to manage their condition safely, often relying on improvised alternatives that compromised their health, dignity and quality of life. Determined to make a difference, Sam founded Footprints 2 Africa in 2025.
What began as a small grassroots initiative has grown into a volunteer led charity dedicated to restoring dignity, hope and confidence. Working alongside healthcare providers, community organisations and trusted partners, we help ensure that essential healthcare supplies reach the people and communities who need them most. As a 100% volunteer led charity, we believe that no one should be denied dignity because they cannot access the supplies they need. Every donation, volunteer and supporter helps us bring hope, restore confidence and change lives.
Why Our Work Matters
Across many parts of Africa, access to essential healthcare supplies remains a daily challenge. For people living with a stoma, the lack of appropriate supplies can have a profound impact on their health, wellbeing and dignity. Others face similar barriers when trying to access continence products, wound care supplies, menstrual products and other items essential to everyday life. Without access to the right support, people are often forced to improvise using whatever materials are available. We have encountered individuals using bread bags, disposable nappies, rags and other unsuitable materials to manage their condition. This can lead to discomfort, skin damage, infection and avoidable health complications.
The impact extends far beyond physical health. Many people face stigma, isolation and rejection because of leaks, odour or a lack of understanding about their condition. Some are unable to attend school, remain in employment or participate fully in community life. Others withdraw from family, friends and social activities because they feel embarrassed, excluded or forgotten. We believe that no one should be disadvantaged because they cannot access the healthcare supplies they need. By connecting donated supplies with the people and communities who need them most, we help restore dignity, confidence and hope.
