Hope returns to the Helen Joseph Hospital

2–3 minutes

Back in May this year, Footprints 2 Africa supported a pilot programme at Helen Joseph Hospital. The initiative was introduced by SASS, and through a shared effort, Footprints 2 Africa provided large quantities of donated stock that contributed to making the programme possible.

During that time, Sr. Aletta Ross, Operational Manager at Helen Joseph Hospital, shared words that still stay with us today – “F2A made it possible for us to say yes to our patients. For once, we didn’t have to turn anyone away. Their donations were more than supplies, they were a lifeline.” Those words continue to inspire us and reflect what Footprints 2 Africa stands for — compassion, dignity and action that restores hope.

Today, Footprints 2 Africa returned to Helen Joseph Hospital, this time independently, continuing the mission to fill the gap where shortages persist. This marks an important new chapter for us, continuing the work we helped begin, but now as a fully independent charity directly supporting hospitals in need across South Africa.

“Helen Joseph Hospital holds a very special place in our hearts. The staff work tirelessly, often under immense pressure, yet remain dedicated to their patients’ wellbeing. When supplies run out, it’s not their fault and today, we wanted to recognise their commitment and care.”

— The Footprints Team

It was a wonderful morning spent building relationships, sharing encouragement, and thanking the staff who continue to care against all odds. Each team member received an appreciation goodie bag, a small token of gratitude for their hard work and heart. And of course, there was cake… delicious cake — for tea time! 🎂

Today was also Patient Day for ostomates, and we made sure not to leave without leaving behind a generous amount of stock so that no ostomate went home empty handed. Every patient who attended received the essential supplies they needed, because no one should ever have to go without dignity or care.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to walking this road together with Helen Joseph Hospital; filling the gaps where needed and joining hands in healthcare to bring dignity, hope and compassion to every patient in need.

Thank you to everyone who continues to send in supplies. The stock delivered to Helen Joseph Hospital today came directly from your generosity. We could not do this without you. Thank you for changing lives, one precious bag at a time.

If you have unused ostomy supplies, please consider donating, your kindness helps fill hospital shelves and restores dignity to lives across Africa.
