Restoring Dignity Through Hope
When we first met Val in April, Footprints 2 Africa had just begun supplying Helen Joseph Hospital with ostomy supplies. Her story reminds us exactly why our work matters.
“I have a stoma due to diverticulitis,” Val shares. “In Cape Town I didn’t have proper care, so I moved to Johannesburg to live with my daughter. But even there, the hospital could only give me 3 bags a month, no wipes, no adhesive remover, nothing. I was devastated.“
Without enough supplies, Val’s life became a daily struggle. “I was scared to eat, because I had to wash out and reuse my bag. I was given the wrong pouching system, and it leaked, so I had to tape it around the edges. It was heart breaking.”
Everything changed when Footprints 2 Africa stepped in. “I want to thank Footprints 2 Africa for assisting us with supplies. Before, I could only shower once a week, now I can live with dignity again.” Val’s kindness has rippled outward. “I even helped a lady from Zimbabwe with stoma bags, only because of your help could I do that.”
Her words say it all: “From the bottom of my heart, thank you for saving our dignity. Lots of love ”
Stories like Val’s show why Footprints 2 Africa exists – To restore dignity, health and hope, one precious bag at a time.
